Hormone Implants for Women and Men
Dr. Childrey provides Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). These treatments are provided through Dr. Childrey’s Health Additions, PLLC which is not contracted with any insurance carriers.
BHRT is rarely covered by insurance as it is considered “experimental and investigational” as a hormone replacement method. If, after your consultation, you decide to try BHRT, you will be responsible for payment at the time of service.
BHRT is considered an elective treatment, and there are no guarantees as far as outcomes.
Scientific research has shown that Bioidentical Hormone Therapy is far better than using non-human hormones, however it is being used more and more in the United States for hormone replacement.. With the new delivery system using time-release pellets, the hormones are delivered efficiently and evenly and can make a huge difference in your life.

Advancing Breast Cancer Research with Hormone Therapy
At Columbus OB/GYN, we are proud to be part of IRB-approved research focused on the use of testosterone pellet therapy in women with a history of successfully treated breast cancer.
Many believe testosterone is solely a “male hormone,” but in reality, testosterone plays a crucial role in both male and female health. In fact, healthy women typically have nearly ten times more testosterone than estrogen circulating in their bloodstream. (Although estrogen levels may appear higher in lab results, they’re measured in different units.)
Historically, testosterone was used as a breast cancer treatment as early as the 1940s and 1950s. Research showed its ability to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells, and today, testosterone remains FDA-approved for palliative treatment of metastatic breast cancer. Testosterone pellets have also been used safely and effectively for over 80 years to address hormone deficiencies.
We are committed to exploring safe, innovative therapies to improve the lives of our patients. To learn more about this research and whether testosterone therapy may be right for you, please contact our office.
Breast Cancer Research Study: Exploring Testosterone Pellet Therapy for Improved Quality of Life
At Columbus OB/GYN, we’re proud to participate in a prospective observational study designed to evaluate the benefits of testosterone pellet therapy in women who have been treated for breast cancer and are seeking improved quality of life.
Who Can Participate?
Our study includes two groups of breast cancer survivors:
Cohort 1: Women who have completed primary breast cancer treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation) and were prescribed endocrine therapy (such as Tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor) but are struggling with the side effects and unable to continue.
Cohort 2: Women who have completed standard breast cancer treatment—with or without endocrine therapy—and are no longer under active treatment, yet are experiencing poor quality of life due to menopause or lasting effects of treatment.
Why Testosterone Pellet Therapy?
Testosterone therapy has been shown to relieve symptoms of hormone deficiency and improve quality of life in women—both with and without a history of breast cancer. Studies suggest that testosterone may reduce, rather than increase, the risk of breast cancer. When paired with an aromatase inhibitor, the therapy also helps prevent the conversion of testosterone into estrogen, making it especially safe for women with estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.
What Are Testosterone Pellets?
We use bio-identical testosterone pellets, derived from plant-based ingredients and designed to exactly match the body’s natural hormones. These tiny pellets are inserted just beneath the skin in the fatty tissue, where they slowly dissolve and deliver a steady, consistent dose of testosterone directly into the bloodstream.
Safe & Regulated: All pellets are produced by an FDA-licensed 503B compounding pharmacy.
Personalized Dosing: Your provider will determine the appropriate dose based on lab work, symptoms, and your body’s response.
Benefits of Pellet Therapy*
Many women report transformative improvements in how they feel day-to-day, including:
Increased energy and reduced fatigue
Enhanced libido and sexual well-being
Sharper focus, improved memory, and mental clarity
Better mood stability and reduced anxiety or depression
Easier weight management and muscle tone
Improved bone health and protection against muscle loss
Overall sense of well-being and vitality
What to Expect from the Procedure
Pellet insertion is quick and simple—typically done in under five minutes. After numbing the area (usually the hip), your provider will place the pellet under the skin. Afterward, you’ll need to avoid strenuous lower-body activity, swimming, and tub baths for about 3 days. Most patients return every 3 to 4 months for re-insertion.
